Getting to and from Las Vegas from McCarran Airport
Visitors entering Las Vegas through McCarran will be delighted to find themselves a very short distance from the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. The airport is almost perfectly situated in the center of the city, having been one of its first major developments.
The airport is served by four major bus lines, all of which offer 24/7 service from the zero level of both terminals. However, many travelers have difficulty finding the bus Terminal 1 bus stop due to insufficient signage. Upon leaving the terminal, move straight across the parking lot while looking towards your right – you will soon see the previously obscured bus stop.
Each of the four airport bus lines go to different destinations:
• The Westcliff Airport Express (WAX) leaves once per hour between the hours of 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM. This bus travels towards the Tropicana, Hooters, and MGM Grand casinos, eventually stopping at New York, New York. This line is ideal for travelers staying at any of these hotels or at the Monte Carlo or Bellagio.
• The Centennial Express (CX) departs every hour between 6:45 AM and 10:45 PM. It only departs from Terminal 3, and stops at the UNLV Transit Center, Spring Mountain Road, and nearby the Fashion Show Mall and Wynn.
• The RTC 108 Bus Route departs every thirty minutes between 5:00 AM and 1:25 AM. It only leaves from Terminal 1, traveling along Paradise Road to the Convention Center and eventually turning around at the LVH (formerly Las Vegas Hilton).
• The RTC 109 operates 24 hours per day, departing exclusively from Terminal 1. It runs north to Downtown Las Vegas, bypassing the Strip and turning around as it reaches the end of Maryland Parkway.
Be aware that many hotels offer free shuttle service from McCarran airport, and several shuttle bus companies will take visitors to any hotel on the Strip for a flat fee of between $7.5 and $9. Often, casino-run shuttle buses will take visitors for free – they're happy to get tourists onto the gambling floor.
You can also hire taxis, limousines and party buses from reputable Las Vegas vendors. Expect to pay between $20 and $30 for a taxi from the airport and anywhere from $125 to $200 per hour for limousine and party bus service.
