Art, History, and Food in Paris

Paris is full of some of Europe’s greatest architectural masterpieces – and not just the Eiffel Tower! While the tower is the most recognizable building in France, the city is full of architectural wonders with hundreds of years of history. Notre Dame Cathedral has been standing since the year 1163, and to this day it is still open to the public. It’s full of stunning art and stonework, and sermons still take place in the cathedral every week.

Another popular landmark is the Arc de Triomphe, overlooking the Champs-Elysees avenue. The arch was commissioned two centuries ago in 1806.

There is also the Louvre Museum, which is famous for its glass pyramid-shaped roof. The Louvre Museum is home of the Mona Lisa, a famous piece of artwork by Leonardo da Vinci.

After touring the Louvre, visitors can then experience the collection of modern and contemporary art pieces at the Pompidou Center. There is also the Musee d’Orsay, which is popular with tourists. It offers a large collection of impressionist works by Claude Money and Auguste Renoir, as well as a huge selection of other pieces by famous French artists.

The city is also a hub for world-renowned theater productions and music events. The Palais Garnier, an opera house that seats almost 2,00 people, was completed in 1875 and to this day is a popular attraction for fans of great architecture and cultural events. The venue hosts ballet, opera, and symphony performances. Tourists also love the Museum of French Cinema, the Cinematheque Francaise, which has one of the large film archives in the world. For culture, cinema, music, and art, it’s hard to beat Paris.

The French capital city is also home to a great deal of history, and the Musee de l’armee and Musee Carnavalet are two great examples of French museums. These two destinations offer an extensive insight into the history of Paris, with the Carnavalet museum consisting of two mansions opened in 1880 to provide visitors and locals alike with a chance to see medieval artifacts, memorabilia from the French revolution, and art pieces that depict the most influential centuries of the city. The Musee de l’Armee also has a collection of more than half a million French military artifacts.

The restaurant and café culture is another huge draw for the city, with tourists coming from all over Europe and beyond to experience the talent of Parisian chefs. From traditional French pastries, to world-renowned restaurants, Paris has everything for food enthusiasts.
